Michele Miyamoto

Academic Coaching Coordinator

Biography:

“I hope to make a difference by being a safe person you can talk to - to explore the world, to vent, to get built up and to get advice,” Michele said, “I have a high bar set for every single student I work with, but I also am deeply invested in ensuring they have what they need to get there.”

Michele grew up in Poughkeepsie, New York and attended Johnston State College in rural Vermont for both her BA and her Masters. She is a Student Support Services (SSS) alum and it has changed her life. Michele’s SSS experience helped her set high expectations for herself and develop strategies that have helped her become successful and success oriented for the last 20 years.

“It changed my life by giving me a job opportunity as a student tutor and then later with her first professional job. 20 years later in this field and I can’t imagine not serving TRIO SSS or EOP students!” Michele said.

Michele has worked at Humboldt for 8 years and when she isn’t providing learning and tutorial services, she’s spending time with her kids and partner fixing up her farm, gardening, creating art, and spending as much time as she can outdoors. When she isn’t outdoors, she loves cooking and listening to old-school hip-hop.

Michele loves when she can watch students overcome their fears and barriers and become their own boss. It is inspiring to her when students take ownership of their lives and are committed to their work and their dreams.

Whether you need a tutor for a class, want to become an amazing tutor like Michele was when she was a student, want a passionate and dedicated Fall Bridge Instructor, or you need a mentor, Michele will be there for you.
