What is Summer Bridge Orientation (SBO)?
Summer Bridge is a week-long virtual mandatory orientation program that provides entering EOP freshmen with the tools necessary to navigate a successful transition to Humboldt State University.

As an SBO participant, you will have the opportunity to connect with other incoming EOP freshmen & EOP staff, you will receive advising & mentoring, and the chance to familiarize yourself with HSU and the surrounding communities.

When does it start?
SBO Check-in:  AUGUST 15th 
All EOP students are required to check-in for virtual Summer Bridge Orientation.

EOP Early Housing Check-in:  AUGUST 15th, 8:00 am-12:00 pm
Students will be in the room that was assigned and confirmed to them by Housing. Please check-in @ the Jolly Giant Commons (JGC) Recreation Room, 1st floor.  Please park in LOTS G1 & R2 off of LK Wood Blvd. & Granite Ave. A parking permit is required for the day and will be provided at check-in. HSU campus map

EOP Welcome & Parent Orientation: August 15th, 2:30 pm 
We encourage you and your family/guests to attend in order to meet EOP staff, other EOP students and their parents! Your family/guests are more than welcome to help you move in, and participate in the Parent Orientation that will be offered in English & Spanish, however, they cannot attend other virtual Summer Bridge Orientation activities.

Who can attend and is it required?
All EOP freshmen are required to attend Summer Bridge Orientation and will also participate in other virtual Orientation activities required by the university. Participation in SBO is mandatory. Please note: SBO workshops and activities typically run from 1 pm ‒5 pm. If you are a student living off-campus and/or are working, you must make prior arrangements regarding your work schedule or family obligations.

What does it cost to attend?
SBO is provided at NO COST. However, you may be charged for some lodging & meals, please read below:

ON-CAMPUS students Your lodging & meals will be covered by the program until Housing’s “move-in-day”. From that date on, you are responsible for covering your own lodging & meals. This is included in your housing contract. 

OFF-CAMPUS students, you will be responsible of your own meals and housing. 

What are your travel plans? 
Whether you are arriving by bus or plane, we will be happy to provide you with resources to find your way to campus. Please let us know as soon as possible whether you will be driving up with family or friends*, arriving by bus on AMTRAK or Greyhound, or by plane on United Airlines.
*Parents & family are not allowed to stay on campus in the Residence Halls and must find their own lodging accommodations.

ON-CAMPUS students: Students planning to live on campus may move-in during designated hours for EOP Early Housing Check-inHow and when will you be arriving? We’d like to know, please call or email us!

OFF-CAMPUS students: We’d still like to know how & when you will be arriving but no need to check-in until the first day of Summer Bridge Orientation.

IMPORTANT NOTICES

  • Admitted EOP students must sign-up for Summer Bridge Orientation by May 1.

We are a first come first served program, please don’t risk the chance of being placed on a wait list.

In order to be eligible for June Registration, you must complete the following:

  • Accept your admission to HSU before May 1.
  • Sign-up for Summer Bridge Orientation before May 1.

IMPORTANT DATES & DEADLINES

March : ​Sign up  begins for Summer Bridge Orientation (deadline is May 1st)

March 1: On-Campus Housing Applications are available starting at 4 pm. Secure your spot! Apply at: www.humboldt.edu/housing/apply

Please note: Housing is assigned on a first-come/first-served basis and is determined by the date you complete the application. The housing deposit is $200.

April: Financial Aid Awards are posted...check your STUDENT CENTER (SC)!

May 1: Intent to Enroll Deadline ‒ Accept your admission to HSU in your SC! 

May 1: Deadline to sign-up for Summer Bridge Orientation

June : Registration for Fall classes 
Please note: In order to be eligible, you must accept your admission to HSU (by 5/1) & sign-up for Summer Bridge Orientation (by 5/1).

August 15 : Summer Bridge Orientation 

August 24 : 1st Day of online instruction 

September 8: 1st day of designated Face to Face classes

Sign Up for Summer Bridge 2020 by logging-in to myHumboldt, click on the Student Center icon, then click on the orientation link under the Admissions section.
